UNIZULU RESEARCH EQUIPMENT

We continually invest in our state-of-the art resources and facilities. These allow our researchers to break new ground, and lead to fruitful collaborations with a wide range of business and academic partners.

Many of these resources are available for hire, allowing our collaborators access to highly trained staff and equipment. These research facilities can be booked through the Research and Innovation Division.

MANDELA – Modern Africa Nuclear Detector Laboratory Purpose
UNIZULU is home to the MANDELA nuclear-physics laboratory, which is space for experimental Nuclear Physics. Nuclear Physics has formed the backbone in human knowledge about matter and materials. UNIZULU scientists used the technology to train students and to advance research and development in nuclear-physics detection – develop technology for cancer imaging, develop new detectors for environmental monitoring and mining. Our highly experienced core facility staff support multi-disciplinary users in cutting-edge research, positioning MANDELA Lab as a leading detector technology and imagining centre in the South Africa.
High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (HRTEM) Purpose
UNIZULU’s HRTEM equipment unites our dedicated facilities across Departments in the Faculty of Science Agriculture and Engineering - Biological and Chemical Sciences, and Physics, Mathematics, and Engineering. The HRTEM provides material characterisation analysis, equipped to produce detailed morphological, crystallographic and elemental composition data on materials. The equipment is highly sensitive, capable of producing analyses on 4K definition images, with a resolution as low as the atomic level. Our highly experienced core facility staff support multi-disciplinary users in cutting-edge research, positioning HRTEM as a leading imaging centre in the South Africa, and the Africa Region

J-Kem Water Flow Monitor
Water flow monitor includes flow monitor monitors the flow rate of water through a condenser, water bath, or other equipment.
3500 Genetic Analyser
The 3500 Genetic Analyser run a wide variety of Sanger sequencing and fragment analysis applications, including de novo sequencing and resequencing (mutational profiling), microsatellite analysis, MLPA, AFLP, LOH, and SNP validation or screening.
PCR machine
The PCR machine amplify targeted DNA/protein sequence. The PCR products are analysed after the completion of the amplification.
real-time PCR
The real-time PCR amplify targeted DNA/protein sequence. It monitors the amplification of targeted DNA/protein sequence during PCR in real time.
Multiskan Sky-high microplate spectrophotometer
The Multiskan Sky-high microplate spectrophotometer is a UV/Vis microplate spectrophotometer designed to be convenient and easy to use for virtually any photometric research application, especially DNA, RNA, and protein analysis, as well as turbidity measurements.

To dry biological materials under vacuum

For extraction of fruit pulp surrounding hard seeds as puree
